St. George's 2012 Calendar

Here is the first draft of the 2012 tennis season calendar. Minor changes will still be required once we have a firm opening date for the courts (i.e. confirm lesson start times) and possibly for tournaments (where start and end times may depend on entries and weather). The calendar does, however, identify general program use and court availability for the season.
Junior Programme - Team Tennis

Junior Lessons
Our junior lessons are always a very popular program among children and parents in HRM! Lessons are available for kids of all skill levels starting at age 5. Sessions run through spring, summer and fall, and cover a curriculum ranging from beginner techniques to essential skills for the competitive player. Students will be placed in specific groups based on their skill/age to ensure everyone improves and, most importantly, enjoys their time on our courts! Each session of lessons will cover basic ground strokes (forehand and backhand), volleys, overheads, serves and an intro to gameplay which can be complimented with various competitions and fun days during the season. The schedule of sessions for 2012 is as follows: Session 1: May 22nd to June 21st (after school lessons) Session 2: July 3rd to July 31st Session 3: August 1st to August 24th Session 4: September 4th to September 28th (dates subject to change)

Our goal at St. George's is to help kids find success in tennis and improve their game; whether that means being able to come down and play with friends/parents, or taking their tennis to the next competitive level!

Special Junior Lesson Events
Our Junior Program is more than just structured instruction; at St. George's we strive to provide additional time for kids to come have some fun during, and outside of, their scheduled lesson times. This is often done in forms of themed lessons such as "Dress like a Pro Day", and "Twin Day", as well as our weekly Game Day every Friday. Every session also includes a "Bring a Friend Day", an Ice Cream Social, and a Junior Barbeque. In addition, we also hold Junior Round Robins, Fun Days such as our Summer Kick Off and our closed tournament at the end of every summer. We strongly encourage everyone to come on down and take advantage of the extra time at the club with friends and coaches!

Team Tennis
Our team tennis program allows both competitive and non-competitive players to get a chance to play some real matches against juniors at our club, and others. Players are placed in one of two groups based on their competitiveness and performance at try-outs at the end of June. Each group will practice from 1:00 to 2:00 on two afternoons throughout the week, and hopefully attend at least one team tennis tournament with other teams from around the province. The program costs $10 for the entire summer, and includes team t-shirts that will be ordered later in the season.

Junior Closed Tournament and Awards Night
At the end of every summer we hold a final tournament open to only St. George's junior players. Entrants are divided into age groups of under 10, under 12, under 14, and under 17, as well as boys and girls if numbers allow it. We also offer doubles and mixed doubles for any interested participants and, through consolation rounds, everyone is guaranteed at least two matches. After the final tournament day we have a barbeque for all juniors, a summer awards ceremony with many prizes to be won, and a summer finale to close out the night! This event is for all of our juniors who attended lessons anytime during our season, even if they did not play in our closed tournament.
